Did you know that just living through the pandemic may have inflamed your brain, even if you never got COVID?
That's according to a recent study conducted by Massachusetts General Hospital and published in the Harvard Gazette.
When I read that, a lightbulb went off.
See about 6 years ago, a neurologist told me my brain was inflamed. Specifically, he said I had the brain of a person who had recently suffered a bad concussion.
That's not the end of the world - except I hadn't suffered a concussion.
So what was causing the inflammatory reaction?
I was stuck in chronic survival mode. I was on constant high alert, pumping out a steady diet of stress hormones that activated and inflamed my brain and body.
I needed a full reset.
The problem with being in survival mode, however, is that your brain is extra resistant to change
So where do you start?
It took some troubleshooting, but my experience with yoga, meditation and a yoga lifestyle gave me a solid jumping off point
I learned how to work with my nervous system instead of working against it, to make gradual changes without forcing my system and creating a backlash
I learned how to build a foundation of lasting health physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually
And I realized, as I read those headlines, that we're all in the same boat now. And what an amazing opportunity this is for us as a society to tackle the root causes of chronic inflammation and move out of chronic survival mode
Are you with me?
In resilience,
Caitlin
