The way we’re taught to think about anxiety is CAUSING anxiety

“You can’t solve a problem at the same level of thinking that created it” - Albert Einstein (supposedly)

If you’re feeling caught in a downward spiral with your mental health, you’re not alone. 30% of people in the US struggle with anxiety beyond normal day-to-day worries. That’s a lot of people! Clearly, something is broken at the foundation here.

Too often, when our thoughts are troubling, we’re told to reframe them, talk back to them, “see the positive,” etc. Essentially we’re being told to use our thoughts to change our thoughts. But what’s going on in our mind is the problem in the first place, so most people get stuck in a whirlpool trying to wrestle with the problem instead of doing the solution.

The solution is simple:

1.We need to build the mental muscles to step back from our thoughts and stop engaging with them

2.Then we need to bypass our mind and get into action

You can’t solve a problem on the same level of thinking that created it - your mind created the problem, so stop trying to use your mind to solve it. Get into the driver’s seat so you’re not taking orders from your mind anymore, and then get into action and use your body to shift your thoughts.

In resilience,
Caitlin
