The most powerful breathing pattern I’ve learned
#Inhale for a count of 5
#Hold for a count of 3
#Exhale for a count of 10
This is one of the most powerful breathing patterns I've learned, and I'm using it right now!
Lengthening our exhale in relation to our inhale activates the ventral branch of our vagus nerve, related to our parasympathetic nervous system.
This pattern can help calm the mind and bring the body out of fight, flight, or freeze.
But as helpful as these different patterns can be, breathing is not one size fits all. Each person's nervous system is oriented in its own way. Deep breathing might not be what you need right now.
Listen to your body
Put your feet on the earth
Remind yourself that distress is temporary
You come from a place of total fearlessness - that's why anxiety feels so weird.
It'll pass…
